Spontaneous Journey to Bethlehem

This was an unplanned trip and just how I like to travel. I was in Tel Aviv to photograph a number of models and one particular model invited me to Jerusalem. I thought ‘what the heck’, why not? I have three months of unplanned travel ahead of me. I got online, saw Bethlehem was close and decided to spend a couple of weeks there as well.

Jerusalem was nothing what I expected and Bethlehem even more so. The propaganda machine in the US sure does play a number on us when it comes to the Middle East. I never felt more ignorant than I did on this adventure. As ignorant as I was, I have never been more educated by the people I met along the way as I was in Bethlehem. A very spiritual and eye opening journey. One that has impacted my soul for life. And, to think, it all began with “Hey Drew, lets go to Jerusalem? I can show you around, we can shoot in the old city, I can educate you on what is really happening in this part of the world, and then we can hang out in my flat and just chill.” I love spontaneity, I was hooked!!
