a love affair
for years, solitude was my faithful friend
content with myself, no hearts to mend
questions of love, they drifted away
in the quiet of my days, i found my way
“will you ever date again?” they asked
but solitude’s embrace is a gentle mask
no need for romance, no longing sigh
just me and the stars in the midnight sky
then three days past, a twist in fate
a purchase simple, but a shift innate
two poppy plants, so bright and fair
now whisper secrets in the morning air
their petals dance, a fiery embrace
in their presence, my heart finds its pace
such vivid hues, a lover’s blush
in their beauty, a tender hush
i’m captivated, utterly drawn
to the poppies that bloom with the dawn
their delicate grace, a lover’s call
in their presence, i feel the fall
no longer alone, but not quite the same
in their bloom, i find a new flame
a love affair with nature’s art
these poppies, they’ve stolen my heart
so, when they ask if love will find me
i smile and say, “just look and see”
for in my garden, where poppies grow
a new love blossoms, a gentle glow
