Missing – By Drew Frederic

MISSING

On a bank of a northern dead river
I sit an listen an listen an listen…
I hear nature’s voice trying to mix with mine
She tries to quiet my ugly thoughts

My thoughts have been heavy as a friend went missing
He chose to vanish as my fingers reached out
Sleepless nights as silence was loud
Those close at hand felt the sharp stone

I kept myself busy to distract the man in my brain
But he hammered through as he knew the way
The pain is deep it cuts me blind
The hawk licks the blood from my eyes

I cannot take the harsh truth as the knife lays still
The fruit is sliced it withers and dies
I cannot move my eye as he connects
Will a voice be heard before my sun sets?

An empty message is received from him
Void of touch, sound, and color the message is
The pain is deep it cuts me blind
The hawk licks the blood from my eyes

The lens has canceled all it knows
I want no more of the whispers from the man within
Time will move the stone off his ear
Time will make him walk but the circle has a tear

The river moves fast without any noise
A piece will be empty and filled with blankness from another
The pain is deep it cuts me blind
The hawk licks the blood from my eyes

Day after day I gave and gave and gave…
The only return was the smile on my face
He emptied my soul with no remorse
My feet walk only with the memories now

Will all friends go missing as they touch?
My voice is confused as it hits the light
The pain is deep it cuts me blind
The hawk licks the blood from my eyes

Pain becomes tired as it can run no more
Silence has moved away it no longer sees
Fear is jealous the friend has a new chair
I feel nothing as skin is stripped layer by layer

Change stays constant the friend moves on
Reason now starts the endless search
The pain is deep it cuts me blind
The hawk licks the blood from my eyes
